Als Mäzen und Bücherfreund machte er aus seinem Haus an der Avenue de l'Elysée in Lausanne einen Ort der Begegnung zwischen franz. und schweiz. Schriftstellern und Malern. Ferner stellte er es für festl. Anlässe zur Verfügung, so 1936 für die Verleihung des Grossen Schillerpreises an Charles Ferdinand Ramuz. 1926 gründete er sein eigenes Verlagshaus und begann, die Werke Ramuz' zu publizieren ("Sept morceaux" mit sieben Zeichnungen von René Auberjonois). M. gab Charles-Albert Cingria, Gustave Roud und Pierre-Louis Matthey sowie die elegante Wochenschrift "Aujourd'hui" (1929-31) heraus und nahm junge Autoren wie Maurice Chappaz, Jacques Chessex, Henri Gaberel und ab 1946 Philippe Jaccottet in sein Programm auf. Als Hommage an Frankreich rief er 1942 die Reihe "Bouquet" ins Leben, in der er 73 Bände veröffentlichte, zuletzt 1961 "La Promenade sous les arbres" von Jaccottet, dessen Titel neue Wege ankündigte.
