Spine split at the front with ffep and second fep and title page loose, spine cover torn and mostly off. Most of the missing piece is lain in the fron of the book. Edge and spine tip wear and faded top edge of the front cove…r. It still has bright gilt and all pages are intact, other than front end papers previously mentioned are well attached to the spine. The pages are clean and unmarked, including the large fold out chart, printed on heavy paper, and is in very good condition with some splitting at a couple of the seams and a small creased area on the innermost fold. Pages are lightly tanned at the edges. The pages are oddly numbered with each open two page spead being numbered as one page, so there are actually 64 pages by the standard numbering system, plus the preliminaries. Translated into English by H. Kirchenhoffer from a German translation of an ancient egyptian manuscript found in the year 1801 by M. Sonnini in one of the royal tombs near Mount Libycus in upper Egypt. From a book previously printed in London by J.McGowan in 1822. 32 x 2 pp.

Very good plus condition, an unworn copy, no owner names and no signs of use, there is a very faint water glass ring at the rear board and there are short edge tears at one intersection of the chart.

Contemporary pink paper-covered boards over green-paper spine (i.e hardcover); title-label tipped onto front board. Spine is heavily worn and the boards are rather grubby; there are splits to the spine-hinges but the boards… are holding firm. Internally sound and, for the most part, clean but there is scattered foxing to leaves, and the first and rear pages are grubby and have numerous pencil jottings. The half-title and rear endpaper appear to have been removed. The fold-out Oracle is a little foxed and worn at its extremities but in generally good order. A slightly shaken, rather worn copy overall but a decent example, priced accordingly. This is an original publication and not photocopied edition.
