Con la presente edición, el lector español cuenta por fin con la oportunid…ad de conocer de primera mano el diálogo entre dos de las voces filosóficas más importantes del siglo XX. En los años veinte, atraída por la seductora fama de Heidegger, Hannah Arendt acudió a la universidad donde él enseñaba. Fue entonces cuando entre el profesor y la alumna se estableció una relación amorosa que sería decisiva para ambos. La figura de Hannah Arendt, a quien consideró la «pasión de su vida» e inspiradora de su trabajo, no abandonó al filósofo. Por otra parte, Heidegger supuso una influencia decisiva para las posturas filosóficas de Hannah Arendt. La Correspondencia está dividida en tres partes, que corresponden a tres períodos (1925-1932, años cincuenta, 1966-1975). Las cartas del período entre 1925 y 1932 nos muestran el inicio de la relación hasta una carta de Heidegger en que se defiende de una acusación de antisemitismo. Luego hay un silencio de varios años, debido al distanciamiento que se produjo y sobre todo a los avatares políticos que pusieron a ambos en bandos opuestos. Heidegger es miembro del NSDAP, mientras que Hannah Arendt se ve obligada a huir de Alemania por su condición de judía y por sus convicciones políticas. Por iniciativa de ella en 1950, se reestablece la relación bajo la atenta mirada de la esposa de Heidegger. El filósofo dedica cartas y poemas apasionados a su antigua amante. Sin embargo, el nexo vuelve a enfriarse a mediados de los cincuenta y se retoma a mediados de los sesenta hasta la muerte de Hannah Arendt. El epistolario no sólo permite profundizar en la personalidad de sus autores, sino que es también un recorrido por la historia del siglo XX. Escrito precisamente en su centro (1925-1975), refleja todas sus tensiones. Por otra parte, el diálogo también permite conocer más a fondo algunas de las posturas filosóficas de los epistológrafos, sobre todo las de Heidegger, y también su obra más íntima, como son la poesía y los poemas y textos personales de Hannah Arendt.
