As Clerk of the the Privy Countil he had an insider's look into English political life. This two volume set was bound in 3/4 leather with marbled boards by Sangorski and Sutcliff. Unfortunately, the bindings are detriorated and the front cover of volume 1 is nearly detached . The leather spine label is partly missing in volume 1. Top edges are gilt. Volume 1: 568 p.; Volume 2: 602 p. Indexed. Aside from the binding issues, there are no internal or external markings, and the contents are clean and bright. Previous owner bookplate in each volume.
