Paul Albert Grawitz (1850-1932), studierte in Halle und Berlin, wo er schon als Student am Pathologischen Institut bei Virchow und der Klink Langenbeck arbeitete. 1873 promoviert, wurde er 1875 Assistent am Berliner pathologischen Institut, habilitierte sich 1884 und wurde noch in demselben Jahre als Vertreter Grohes nach Greifswald berufen. 1886 in definitiver Stellung, zuerst als Extraordinarius, 187 als Ordinarius für pathologische Anatomie und allgemeine Pathologie, betreute er die Lehrkanzel bis zum Jahre 1921, in dem er in den Ruhestand trat. Von Bedeutung wurden seine Arbeiten über Schimmelpilze, Dermatomykosen, über die Entstehung der angeborenen Hüftgelenksluxation, seine experimentellen Untersuchungen über den Zusammenhang der Nierenkrankheiten mit der Hypertrophie des linken Ventrikels, über Nierengeschwülste, Icterus neonatorum, über die Ursachen der Peritonitis, Lungeninfarkt, ganz besonders aber seine Arbeiten über Entzündung.
