Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. A STUDY OF MARIA EDGEWORTH WITH NOTICES OF HER FATHER & FRIENDS G. A. OLIVER 1882. Wikipedia tells us that: Maria Edgeworth (1 January 1768 22 May 1849) was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer of adults' and children's literature. She was one of the first realist writers in children'…s literature and was a significant figure in the evolution of the novel in Europe. She held views on estate management, politics and education and was involved with many of the thinkers of her times. I am very pleased to be able to offer: A Study on Maria Edgeworth with notices of Her Father and Friends, by Grace A. Oliver. This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 8 inches, 571 pages with 2 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by A. Williams & Company of Boston, dated 1882 and the Third Edition (so stated). The book is bound in dark blue cloth with gilt titles on cover and spine. The book opens with a tissue-guarded portrait of Maria Edgeworth as the Frontispiece. It is sparsely illustrated with a few other portraits and pertinent scenes from her life. Condition: This book is in good condition. I say so because the rear board looks as though it was exposed to mildew and bears the loss of finish and smudges as a result. Fortunately, that condition has not penetrated the book. There has been some very minor bumping to the corners and spine tips. Inside, a former owner has left his name and date on the first blank page but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages are generally clean and bright, with a few random and sparse instances of light soiling but without toning or foxing. Both hinges are starting but just barely and accordingly, the binding still feels tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
