Add to basketSeven species pf philinacean opisthobranchs are recorded from Aldabra Atoll and their morphology is described. The systematic status of these species is reviewed. Philine orca, Philine rubrata, Spiniphiline kensleyi, Chelidonura babai and Enotepteron rosewateri are here described. Spiniohiline represents a distinct, monotypic genus, possessing unique features of the shell, gizzard, and central nervous system. The previously described species are Gastropteron ladrones Carlson & Hoff, 1974, and C. hirundinina (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832). Most of these species are widespread in the Indo-Pacific tropics, while Chelidonura hirundinina has a circumtropical distribution. Philine orca is found from Aldabra, New Guinea, and Hawaii. Philine rubrata is known from Aldabra to New Guinea. The presence of Gastropteron ladrones is the first record since its description from Guam. New taxa: Philine orca n. sp., Philine rubrata n. sp., Spiniphiline kensleyi n. sp., Chelidonura babai n. sp., Enotepteron rosewateri n. sp. 22 pp., 14 figs, gr. 8.…

Add to basketIn 2015 three leading scientific experts on nudibranchs and sea slugs collaborated to produce a comprehensive guide for divers and scientists to the Indo-Pacific region. After only three years, Nudibranch and Sea Slug Identification Indo-Pacific has sold out and become outdated due to the discovery of new species and numerous changes to the taxonomy of these organisms. This second, updated and reorganized edition, includes 185 new species. Among other features, the new edition shows additional photographs, an identification key, and an up-to-date classification. The Indo-Pacific represents the largest expanse of tropical ocean in the world, stretching from the Indian Ocean coast of southern Africa and the Red Sea to the central Pacific of the Hawaiian Islands, Easter Island and the Marquesas. This region supports the most diverse marine fauna of any place in the world for most groups of marine organisms. The nudibranchs and sea slugs are no exception to this rule; there are about 3,000 described species of these organisms in the world and at least 40% of these have been found exclusively in the Indo-Pacific tropics. This book illustrates 2,138 Indo-Pacific nudibranchs and sea slugs, including many undescribed species. 452 pp., br. gr. 8.…
