[90] + 370 pp. 9" x 6". Hardcover. Overall fair, with loss of dust jacket. Light scuffing and discoloration to exterior, along with slight tears between edges of boards and spine. Hinges remain in good condition, with text block remaining bound well. Pencil markings to front end page, along with bookplate of Mountbatten. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. The Hakluyt Society, Second Series, No. 47. Volume I only. An extremely scarce copy owned by Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979) during his interwar time in the Royal Navy. A maternal uncle of Prince Phillip and second cousin once removed to Queen Elizabeth II, Mountbatten was a close advisor to the Royal Family, and served as a mentor to the future King Charles II. He served in the Royal Navy from 1913 to 1965, seeing action in both World Wars and rose to the title of Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia Command towards the end of the Second World War. He was active in the independence of India, serving as the country's first Governor-General of India from 1947 to 1948. He was killed by an IRA bomb aboard his yacht in 1979 while vacationing in County Sligo, Ireland.…
