Robert Charles Goff was an Irish engraver and painter specializing in topographical landscapes. After a military career that led him to the rank of colonel, he retired in 1878 to devote himself entirely to art. Recognized for his talent, he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1887 and went on to pursue an artistic career enriched by numerous travels between London, Brighton, and Florence. In the 1890s, the couple settled in a villa overlooking Florence, where they undertook the creation of this book dedicated to the beauty of Italian cities.
