Pubblicazione in cui sono spiegati i motivi che condussero l'editore Guglielmo Piatti a rescindere il contratto con l'Accademia della Crusca per la pubblicazione, a dispense, della quinta edizione del Vocabolario. Vennero pubblicati i 3 fascicoli iniziali e poi fu sospesa la pubblicazione dei successivi. In pratica i collaboratori revisori dell'Accademia della Crusca continuavano adÂapportare nuove correzioni, bozza dopo bozza, sulle stesse parti,Âfacendo aumentare a dismisuraÂil lavoro dello stampatore che - si legge - "si affaticava come un cane" lavorando a ricomporre di nuovo le medesime pagine, giorno dopo giorno, "nel fare e nel disfare come accadeva alla tela di Penelope". Da qui discendeva anche un aumento dei costi della manodopera per Piatti visto che sei/sette mesi erano stati impiegati per portare a termine un lavoro che si sarebbe potuto eseguire comodamente in due mesi e mezzo.
