Bürgermeisters. Studium d. evangelischen Theologie in Wittenberg, seit 1835 in Berlin u. seit 1837 in Halle. Nach bestandenem ersten Examen (183…9) ging er nach Wittenberg zurück, wo er, nachdem er in Magdeburg d. zweite Examen abgelegt hatte (Oktober 1841), Hilfsprediger wurde. Bald darauf wurde er Pfarrer zu Arensnesta an d. Elster (Schweden). Wegen seiner Schrift Bekenntnisse mußte er sein Amt niederlegen. 1846 ging er nach Halle/S. u. wurde bald darauf Prediger d. dortigen deutschkatholischen Gemeinde. 1848 schloß er sich d. demokratischen Bewegung an u. wurde wegen seines Sturmliedes 1849 zu dreieinhalbjähriger Festungshaft verurteilt. 1850 Begnadigung unter der Bedingung, für zwei Jahre im Rauhen Hause bei Hamburg unter Johann Hinrich Wicherns tätig zu werden u. Preußen nicht zu betreten. 1854 in Hamburg Übertritt zum Katholizismus. Er ließ sich im selben Jahr als Privatmann in Münster nieder u. war hier seit 1858 Mitarbeiter an d. von Kaspar Franz Krabbe herausgegebenen Monatsblatt für katholisches Unterrichts- u. Erziehungswesen. Er starb am 18. April 1873 in Münster. Sprache: Deutsch.
