Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This captivating exploration of the heated 19th-century debate on tariffs and free trade in the United States unveils the strategies employed by opposing political parties to sway public opinion. The author examines the arguments put forth by both sides, delving into the historical context of protectionist policies from the nation's inception. One side of the debate argues for the benefits of protectionism, citing increased domestic production, job creation, and economic prosperity. The other advocates for free trade, asserting that it would lower consumer prices and stimulate international commerce. The author meticulously analyzes the consequences of each approach, tracing their impact on industries, labor, and the nation's overall economic trajectory. This meticulously researched and engaging book illuminates the complexities of trade policy and its profound influence on American history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
