Galvin (1882-1956) was founder of the Missionary Society of St. Columban and first Bishop of Hanyang, China. Born in Co. Cork, he was ordained a Catholic priest at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth and held early positions in Cork and Brooklyn, New York. In 1912 he travelled to China, founding in 1916 the 'Missionary Society of St. Columban' which was dedicated to the conversion of the Chinese people to Catholicism.
