Appears to present the history of Geneva, Switzerland, along with the coats of arms of its primary families in power. Authored by historians John-Barthelemy-Gaifre Galiffe and Louis-Alphonse de Mandrot. 44 pages of text preface the two sections of plates of coats of arms, which cover Geneva as an Episcopal republic before 1535 (with 26 plates), and Geneva as a reformed republic afterward (with 10 plates). Most pages contain 25 coats of arms, with the family name and geographical or personal qualifiers appearing in tiny print underneath each one. Though the tp and cover give 1859 as a publication date, at least one internal page lists names with 1860 and 1861 following.
