Spiral_bound. 128p., find a few small sketches (part of journal entries), text reproduced from a keyboard-set ms. DISBOUND, unfortunately; left margin is perforated for a comb-style spine but the comb is absent and the printed cover sheet has its perforations torn away. As is, the text is complete and a copyshop may be able to insert a fresh spine, fix the single loose (upper cover) leaf. FYI, we jury-rigged rubberband and removeable-tape fasteners which will please no-one but indeed can be removed without damage. Study of Child Growth and Development and Disease Patterns in Primitive Cultures. A further FYI as to contents: a "reprint" was available with a 1967 dating, this at 145p. therefore actually an expansion. We believe that the extra pagination consists simply of additional letters tacked onto the end of the "journal".

Paperback. 207p., illustrated with just two tiny hand-sketched line maps, text reproduced from keyboard-set manuscript, copyshop-bound in 11x8.5 inch printed wraps with a black plastic comb spine. The spine is kaput, squashed beyond resetting, its ugly splayed teeth confined by clumsily-applied fiber tape - we should have disbound it and inserted a few strings as a temporary. But we didn't. A little hard to handle as is; clean and unmarked within, and definitely has no loss of leaves. Price reflects the condition. Study of Child Growth and Development and Disease Patterns in Primitive Cultures. Author relaxes with European classics; one time it was with Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. This expedition he has just finished Candide is now (evenings only) enjoying Proust's Within a Budding Grove.

Pamphlet. 14p., a single staplebound fascicle of standard size, 11x8.5 inch inches, text reproduced from a keyboard-set ms on alkaline paperstock. Good copy, we see nothing wrong with it, let's say very good. Uncredited, but possibly the actual publisher: Study of Child Growth and Development and Disease Patterns in Primitive Cultures. Gajdusek is a guy who can walk into the most remote of villiages, feel comfortable, grasp local language clearly enough to document intimate diseases, and read himself to sleep over Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying." Which he loved. In this address to coevals he quotes William Wordsworth extensively, and reminds his fellow scholars that since the cogitations of Leonardo da Vinci no progress has been made in the codification of --at this point he's lost us.

Pamphlet. 9p., a single staplebound fascicle of standard size, 11x8.5 inch inches, text reproduced from a keyboard-set ms on alkaline paperstock. Good copy, a little edgeworn but clean, unmarked and sound. A "filmer" himself, most often in remote Pacific Island fastnesses, Gajdusek knows pitfalls he's encountered with shooting then preserving footage. Classic early footage of New Guinea circa 1920s (Matthew Stirling) was "deposited with the Smithsonian" which lost it, with only outtakes preserved, which required lengthy sessions sequencing and making sense of. Uncredited, but most likely printed by the Study of Child Growth and Development and Disease Patterns in Primitive Cultures.

Paperback. 114 plus [10]p. index, a line map of the atoll the sole illustration. Text reproduced from keyboard-set ms. Softbound in 11x8.5 inch plain printed wraps. Faint edgewear, slight general toning with a slightly faded spine panel, very good copy: sound, clean and unmarked. Study of Child Growth and Development and Disease Patterns in Primitive Cultures. Half the text is made up of personal letters that are actually technical, as his colleagues and family and friends do what he does or are interested. Astonishingly warm man.
