For much of the 20th century, critique played an important part in what was considered "modern" architecture; the canon of modern architecture considered itself dedicated to both formal progress and social critique. But as the 1960s spurred a rereading of modern architecture from a perspective informed by Marxism and the decade's new social movements, many concluded that a building practice could not be critical, owing to its interdependent relationship with power and business. With recent economic crises hitting the building and property sectors, and research playing an increasingly large role in architectural practice, we are witnessing a renewed interest in critique in contemporary architecture, especially from postcolonial and feminist positions. The essays contained in this book, authored by a variety of international architects and thinkers, address this revived moment of critique, arguing that, far from being dead, architectural critique is now indispensable. Text: Iva Cukic / Ministry of Space, Liza Fior, Eyal Weizman / Forensic Architecture, Gabu Heindl, Ana Jeinic, Michael Klein, Christina Linortner, Johannes Pointl / Nina Kolowratnik, Jane Rendell, Ruth Sonderegger, Pelin Tan, Matteo Trentini Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge" is an academic journal in, on, and from the discipline of architecture, addressing the creation, constitution, and transmission of architectural knowledge. It explores methods genuine to the discipline and architectural modes of interdisciplinary methodological adaptions. Processes, procedures, and results of knowledge creation and practice are esteemed coequally, with particular attention to the architectural design and epistemologies of aesthetic practice and research. Issue 09/2025 discusses how multidimensional and diverse forms of thinking, designing, and building disrupt and challenge existing paradigms in the field of architecture in times of multiple struggles - characterised by inequality, conflicts and exploitation of space. How do these changes impact architecture as a profession, practice, and discipline? How do spatial practitioners contribute to a more just spatial production including various voices and encouraging resource-saving urban practices? Referring to Audre Lorde we ask: "Are we doing the work?" This issue features contributions reflecting on collaborative practices, research and diverse forms of architectural knowledge in activism, the building of networks and alliances. Changing Spatial Practice: inter, trans and cross-disciplinary works on collective, feminist, just spatial practices beyond extractive architecture.
