In vivo analgesic activity was conducted by using acetic acid induced writhings as peripheral pain model and the extract at the doses 400 and 600 mg/kg showed significant analgesic activity. Acute oral and repeated dose 28 day oral toxicity studies of methanol extract was carried out in Wistar albino rats as per the OECD guidelines 423 and 407 respectively. In sub-acute oral toxicity dose levels of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg were administered daily for 28 days and compared with the control rats. In both toxicity studies, no toxicity signs and mortality were observed. The MTD value was found to be more than 5 g/kg. A atividade analgésica in vivo foi realizada utilizando contorções induzidas por ácido acético como modelo de dor periférica e o extrato nas doses de 400 e 600 mg/kg mostrou uma atividade analgésica significativa. Os estudos de toxicidade oral aguda e de dose repetida de 28 dias do extrato de metanol foram realizados em ratos albinos Wistar de acordo com as directrizes 423 e 407 da OCDE, respetivamente. Na toxicidade oral subaguda, foram administrados níveis de dose de 200, 400 e 600 mg/kg diariamente durante 28 dias e comparados com os ratos de controlo. Em ambos os estudos de toxicidade, não foram observados sinais de toxicidade e mortalidade. Verificou-se que o valor MTD é superior a 5 g/kg. Studi di tossicità orale acuta e a dosi ripetute per 28 giorni dell'estratto di metanolo sono stati condotti su ratti Wistar albini secondo le linee guida OCSE 423 e 407 rispettivamente. Per la tossicità orale subacuta sono stati somministrati livelli di dose di 200, 400 e 600 mg/kg al giorno per 28 giorni e sono stati confrontati con i ratti di controllo.
