Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION. 4to. (12.6 X 8.9 Inches). Each of the 20 leaves is printed in full colour chromolithography, on the rectos only, including the beautiful decorative title page and 17 leaves of illuminated text within highly decorative borders, printed in full colour and heightened in gold and silver. The whole book was Chromolithographed by W. R. Tymms after designs by W. & G. Audsley. Two neat inscriptions on the front blank endpaper, dated 1881 and 1906. Some neat professional repairs to page edges but overall the pages are clean and bright and each page mounted onto tabs so that it opens fully without risking the spine cracking, a fault common with these gutter percha bindings of the mid Victorian period. The book has been expertly rebound in burgundy cloth, with bevelled edges, to match the original, with new endpapers and the original original decorative cloth boards and spine mounted onto the new boards. Original Leighton, Son and Hodge binders ticket stuck onto the new rear blank endpaper. In the publishers highly decorative boards with lettering and elaborate design to both boards, the rear in blind, the front using gilt, green and white. The spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Some rubbing to the edges of the binding and wear to the top and bottom of spine but overall an attractive copy of this beautiful edition. Housed in a twentieth century quarter morocco clam shell box with velvet lining. The spine lettered in gilt.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. REPRINT. Originally published in 1855. 8vo. (8 x 5.6 inches). Illustrated throughout with decorative head and tail pieces plus frontis and fifteen full page plates, each with a plain paper guard. Neat previous owners 3 line inscription (dated 1876) on the half title. Some minor spotting to a few pages but generally a clean and bright copy in the publishers highly decorative green cloth binding with bevelled edged boards. Elaborate gilt and blind stamped decoration and lettering to the front board. The rear board with a blind stamped decorative panel pattern. Spine fully decorated and lettered in gilt. Off white endpapers. All edges gilt. Some bumping to the extremities and the spine a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this pretty book. A classic piece of decorative Victoriana.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Volumes from the Household edition. 2 volumes bound in one. Large 8vo. (9.9 x 7.5 inches). Text in double column. American Notes & Pictures from Italy are finely illustrated with eighteen engravings, some full page, by Frost and Thomson, The Uncomercial Traveller with twenty six by Dalziel. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities and scratching to the leather of the two bottom outer board corner pieces, but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.
