Devi scrivere. E non dimenticare neppure il vescovo Rovati, la cui storia finisce con un tonante: Et cum spiritu tuo! mentre lui, il vescovo, scoppia in una grande risata ebete scrollando la testa, per annuire, come un cavallo che voglia togliersi di torno i tafani di luglio. Brera lasciò passare un po' di tempo però finì per dar retta all'amico Carley e scrisse la storia del vescovo Rovati, la storia ambientata in quella striscia di terra della campagna pavese, tra il Po e l'Olona, dove si trova il podere della Speziana. E' un posto cupo e sinistro la Speziana, dove succedono nefandezze e turpitudini, delitti mostruosi. E non certo per caso, ma perché da quelle parti pare che il Maligno abbia deciso di eleggere residenz.
