Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The Candy Cottage by May Furlong, with illustrations by Elsa Goldy Young. Chicago: Albert Whitman & Co., 1938. Second printing, following the original 1933 publication. An appealing Depression-era children's picture book, illustrated throughout in color and retaining its scarce original illustrated dust jacket with the publisher's 50-cent price intact on the front flap. Bound in green cloth with a large pictorial paper label to the front board. Book is in very good condition overall: binding remains sound and attractive, with light shelf wear, including some rubbing/wear at corners and extremities. Front pictorial label remains bright and striking, with scattered age spotting/foxing. Interior is clean and well preserved, with illustrations retaining strong, vivid color. A contemporary gift inscription on the illustrated front endpaper reads, "Patricia from Aunt Mat. Xmas 1938," nicely dating the book to the year of this printing. No other writing noted. Original dust jacket is present, an uncommon survival for this 1930s children's title. Jacket is in fair to good condition, with substantial edge wear, chipping and areas of loss, particularly along the upper edge of the front panel; additional smaller chips, tears, creasing, rubbing, and soiling, with red marks near the lower front edge. Despite the wear, the wonderful pictorial front panel remains substantially complete and visually appealing, and both original jacket flaps are present, including the 50-cent publisher's price and rear-flap advertisements for Albert Whitman's Junior Press publications. Rear jacket panel retains its charming color illustration. A scarce jacketed example of an attractive 1930s illustrated children's book, particularly desirable for the survival of the original priced dust jacket. Please see photographs for a detailed representation of condition. Young, Elsa Goldy (illustrator). …
