Original leather, with gilt ruling to spine with burgundy title label missing. xiv, 15-389pp, [3]. Clean interior, save for contemporary signature to front pastedown. Front board, along with the first few pages, up to vi, detached. Sporadic foxing throughout. Plates with significant foxing. Leather rubbed and worn with moderate edge wear. Crease to spine, which is somewhat brittle, and with a chip to crown. Overall a handsome and quite rare early Newburyport edition of Blunt's defining work.

Full leather. Condition: Good. sixth edition. 5 1/4 x 8 1/2 in. xii, 389 pp., plus 3 pgs of Newburyport nautical adverts. Full contemporary brown calf. All 15 map plates present. Sixth edition, as stated, 1809. Lacks ffep. Condition is GOOD ; front board deatched but present. The calf of the front is chipped with loss at edges.…Spine and binding of text split at pg. 186, with a little looseness to pags immediately surrounding. Front pastedown shows a water stain but title pg has just a faint one, text does not show water stains but several plates do. Some plates have mild foxing as well, but overall they are quite clean and the folds good - Sable Island chart has darkest water staining, the Chesapeake fold-out has a little over-folding to the central one. Rear endpapers have more foxing. Naut. RGR.

Contains all of the maps called for in the "Directions for the Binder": 11 maps, of which 1 is folding (Delaw…are River, NJ, PA) and one is a large folding map (Chesapeake). Foxing and browing throughout. Several maps and the black side of the maps contain notes of Voyages along the eastern seaboard in an elegant hand, with names and dated 1820. Some long division and notes in pencil on the end papers. Some dampstaining. An interesting copy, one that has obviously been to sea many times.

This is the 3rd Edition, published according to an Act of Congress. All of the Newburyport editions are quite scarce, and particularly so in original bindings. Original leather, with gilt ruling to spine. Square tight… binding. xvi, 17-251, [5]. Generally clean interior, save for the end pages, which have wonderful contemporary signatures and notes, dating to the year 1800, the year of publication. Most of the notes are wrtten by one Captain Lathley Rich, who purchased the book in Newburyport, MA in 1805, one of the ownership notes dated to 1805 aboard the schooner 'Rover' while at sea. In another ownership note, captain Rich warns others to: "steal not this book for fear of shame for here you see the owner's name", also dated in 1805. Leather binding rubbed and worn with a chip to the front board near the top fore edge corner, and a chip to the rear board near the lower joint. Spine label mostly gone, save for a fragment of red and gilt. Binding cord holding tight, though there is a front joint separation along lower third. Overall a handsome, sound, and quite rare early Newburyport edition of Blunt's defining work.

Foxing to text pages, with occasional mild dampstaining. Front flyleaves are loose with fore edges tattered. Twelve maps (three folded), very good condition with some mild browning and a few dampstains, lacking map of Charleston Harbour. Handwritten notations on front and rear flyleaves and page 203. Contemporary owner's name in ink on front flyleaf: "Ebenezer Andrews / Dighton." A nice example of this early American navigational guide. Together with the Courses and Distances from Cape Cod and Cape Ann to Georges' Bank, through the South and East Channels, and the setting of the Currents, With the Latitudes and Longitudes of the Principal Harbours on the Coast. Together with a Tide Table. Ebenezer Andrews was a sea captain who was born in Dighton, Massachusetts in 1785, later moving to Fall River in the 1820s. Capt. Andrews sailed the world, traveling to ports in South America, Europe and Asia. He was associated with a number of vessels during his career, either as master or part owner. Among the ships he commanded were the Hope, John Brown and Superior. In 1837, Capt. Andrews moved to Providence, Rhode Island, eventually becoming a merchant in the hay, grain and salt business. Retiring in 1848, Capt. Andrews returned to Dighton, where he died in 1858. He is buried in the Unitarian Church Cemetery. Fifth edition of Capt.
