The author presented this copy of his book to Professor Allardyce Nicoll [ 1894 - 1976 ] ( British literary scholar and teacher ) who was in Uppsala in 1962. The book clearly didn't make an impression on Nicoll as it remains un read & un-opened as it came from the printers. The book is a critical study of Galt's 'Annals of the Parish', the book which made his reputation, 'The Provost', 'Sir Andrew Wylie', 'The Ential', and 'Ringan Gilhaize'.
