Friedrich von Emperger studierte an den Technischen Hochschulen Prag und Wien und war dann Assistent am Prager Lehrstuhl für Brückenbau. Auf der Pariser Weltausstellung lernte er den Stahlbeton kennen, dessen Weiterentwicklung er in New York bei den Jackson Architect Iron Works betrieb. Nach Empergers Entwürfen wurden in der Folgezeit viele Brücken, Hochhäuser und Industriebauten errichtet. 1898 kehrte er nach Europa zurück, lehrte bis 1902 Enzyklopädie der Ingenieurwissenschaften an der TH Wien und wurde 1903 als einer der ersten technischen Doktoren promoviert. Er entwarf die beiden größten Bogenbrücken Österreichs, über den Traunfall und im Scharnstein" (DBE). Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt.
