Laut Scheibner wurde er dort auch von einem Regieassistenten des damaligen Intendanten des Hamburger Schauspielhauses Gustav Gründgens entdeckt und bekam nach dem ersten Vorsprechen umgehend die Rolle des Schülers in dessen legendärer Faust-Inszenierung (''Hier ist ein Verrückter'', berichteten Gründgens Assistenten, als Friedrichsen mit Maske, Kostüm und Requisiten zum Vorsprechen kam.
