He was one of the fi…rst to use British gemological services. Freund, being of Jewish descent, was arrested by the Nazis in 1942 and deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto. Shortly thereafter, he was deported to the Majdanek concentration camp in Lublin, where he was put to death.

Da diese Publikationen alle Zweige der angewandten Chemie umfassen und, wie es das Schicksal jeder Einzelpublikation ist, in der ausgedehnten Fachliteratur untergehen, habe ich mit dem vorliegenden Leitfaden eine übersichtliche Zusammenstellung der bis jetzt veröffentlichten Methoden angestrebt. Das einzige, bis jetzt auf diesem Gebiete erschienene vortreffliche Buch von G. u. H. Krüss, Kolorimetrie und Quantitative Spektralanalyse (1. Auflage 1890 u. 2. Auflage 1909 bei V?ss) gibt in der Hauptsache neben einer genauen Beschreibung verschiedener Kolorimetertypen und Spektralapparaten, die physikalischen Grundlagen der Kolorimetrie und Spektralanalyse, enthält begreiflicherweise aber nur wenige, dem heutigen Stande der analytischen Chemie nicht mehr entsprechende Hinweise für die praktische Anwendung. Auch die neueren Werke über Kolorimetrie von Lifschitz und Weigert behandeln in der Hauptsache die optischen Grundlagen der Kolorimetrie sowie die im Handel erhältlichen Apparate. Die großen Werke der technisch-chemischen wie auch physiologisch-chemischen Analyse haben teilweise der Kolorimetrie Sonderabschnitte gewidmet, sie stehen aber infolge ihres Umfanges nicht jedem Analytiker zur Verfügung. Dieses kleine Büchlein soll daher die vorhandene Lücke schließen und die Möglichkeit geben, sich in kurzer, gedrängter Form über die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten zu unterrichten.
