Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Touring the traditional craft workshops and historic palazzi that help to preserve Florence's exceptional art and architecture Picturesque medieval streets, breathtaking cathedrals and legendary art: there is much to love about the city of Florence, as its droves of tourists will tell you. Yet the city is not completely overrun by visitors, and Florence's locals are eyewitnesses to today's world while also heirs to a centuries-old history of tradition, creativity and independence.Livia Frescobaldi invites readers to discover the city that lies beyond the tourist realms, in the form of the age-old craft workshops and their ability to preserve all that makes Florence one of the world's most admired cities. Together with photographers Alessandro Moggi and Eugenia Maffei, Frescobaldi charts an itinerary through which to discover the arts and crafts. We visit the botteghe, or storefronts, housing these time-honored practices: framers, stonemasons working in marble or brilliant pietra dura, printmakers and ironworkers. Meanwhile, Frescobaldi also stops to show us some of the most historic palazzi still inhabited and cared for, such as the 13th-century villa home to fashion's Pucci family, or a former monastery-turned-mansion once belonging to Henry Brewster, an American expatriate in Florence. With essays rich in anecdote and admiration, Frescobaldi offers an intimate and original view of what it means to live in Florence today.Livia Frescobaldi grew up in Florence's Oltrarno district. As an appraiser, she has produced valuations for private estates and cultural sites across Italy. She also established the Associazione Amici di Doccia--which she heads--for research into and preservation and promotion of the Ginori porcelain manufactory. Brossura. Condition: new. Photographs by Maffei E. and Moggi A.English Text.Venezia, 2025; paperback, pp. 280, col. ill., cm 25,5x32. Florence and its craftsmen: an inseparable union that has lasted over the centuries.ĞThe home "is the place of return," it is where "memory is". I agree fully with Emanuele Coccia in his consideration that the setting of our private lives, the one that is most intimate and most familiar to us, is an expression of culture like a work of art or a monument of which we study the origins, the provenance and the material, craving to know and understand everythingğ. Livia FrescobaldiInside Florence, published by Marsilio Arte, offers an original account of Florence stemming from a love for the preservation of its places and the desire to offer an intimate and fresh look at the beauty and age-old skills of the city's artisan workshops, which make the Tuscan capital one of the most admired cities in the world. The splendid views, the meticulous details of the furnishings, the framing of the images, the care and attention in narrating and describing the opulence and refinement of the Florentine residences, are just some of the elements that author Livia Frescobaldi has selected to trace out an itinerary revealing her favourite places.Through the photography of Alessandro Moggi and Eugenia Maffei, the book appears almost like a fresco with infinite scenarios, the protagonists of which are the heirs of a thousand-year-old history, in a difficult balance between modernity and tradition. There are sixteen sections for sixteen residences - ranging from palaces and gardens to former monasteries - each linked to a specific form of craftsmanship: the first pairing described is that between Palazzo Frescobaldi and the Antico Setificio Fiorentino, with a union rendered indissoluble by the customised Frescobaldi fabric, which has been in production since time immemorial. Inside Florence does not merely hold up a mirror to Florence's architectural and artistic wealth, but is also an act of love towards those professional artisans who, as Leonardo Ferragamo states in his introductory text, 'continue to create the history of the future with their ingenious, persevering and dedicated passion'.Enriched and enhanced by the introductions of Eugenio Giani, President of the Region of Tuscany, and Bernabò Bocca, President of the Fondazione CR Firenze, the books stresses the uniqueness and historic nature of the city of Florence, that jealously guards its art professions and artisan workshops, its well-known palaces and more hidden ones, its gardens and spaces dedicated to contemporary times. The itinerary proposed in its pages has been planned for those who want to live Florence, rather than just visit it. Libro.

With its emphasis on the resurgence of themes from the past, the book shares the ideals of Frederick Stibbert, collector and patron of arts, in the creation of his museum. The catalogue brings together a rich and varied collection of Florentine maiolica from the second half of the nineteenth century, from the Doccia manufactory and that of Cantagalli. It includes small pieces interesting from the point of view of technique, and large monumental works also of great beauty. Many are unpublished and come from private collections, whilst others have been lent by illustrious institutions overseas. Of particular importance is the documentation from the Cantagalli archives, preserved at the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, which has now been computerized for the first time and has been made available for research. Brossura. Condition: new. Libro.
