Included here are volumes 1 and 2 of the series, both volumes are first printings. Both volumes include more than 20 essays on a variety of topics on the subject. Volume 1 is 342 pages, volume 2 is 420 p…ages, both volumes include sections of b&w photos and illustrations. Both volumes are 4" X 7". No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Both volumes have some light edge wear to the covers. Volume 1 has a bump and crease mark to the lower right corner of the back cover. Volume 2 has a few dots of an ink stain on the top edge, though overall the edges of the text are relatively clean considering the age of the books and paper used. These are not library discard copies, not remainder copies. The bindings are tight and square. The attached photos are of the copies we have in our inventory.

Excavations at many important sites have enabled scholars to recover the most important ancient civilizations of mankind. 'While these have importance in their own right, public interest in this area and its history has always been especially strong because of its close association with the Bible. Much of the new material, however, remains inaccessible to the general reader. But between the extremes of the scholar's scholar trapped in his own specialized language, and the professional popularizer who cannot control his sources of information or distinguish fantasy from fact, there is happily an occasional writer whose work is both scholarly and readable. The journal The Biblical Archaeologist has been successful in discovering such scholar~authors, and some of the most important of their work has been brought together in this volume. The articles selected center in the relationship between biblical and pagan religion in the ancient world. Articles like those on Manna and The Musical Instruments of Israel, on the Flood and on Sodom and Gomorrah, bear closely on the Bible; others, like those on the pagan religions and on the techniques of carbon dating, are indirectly related thereto.
