A letter from the Victorian novelist and journalist Frederick William Robinson to the writer and anthologist Douglas Sladen. Robinson congratulates Sladen on the success of a recent literary gathering, before discussing the painter Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, the novelist Mrs Humphry Ward, John Robinson of the Daily News, and the practical difficulties surrounding literary and journalistic work. Robinson (1830-1901) was a prolific Victorian novelist and journalist whose numerous works included Grandmother's Money, No Church and Home Chimes.
