Neat ink inscription to front end paper - gift inscription dated 1852. One 5mm nick to cloth - head of spine - otherwise a remarkably well preserved copy in super condition.

Original dark green cloth, gilt decorations and titles to front and spine, some wear to the cloth, with a split to the rear left towards the head of spine, previous owners inscriptions to front pastedown and endpapers, corners rubbed, edges a little dirty, text clean. Overall, a very good copy.

Minor foxing or signs of use and name stamp to margin of fly leaf else neat and tight copy. *During the tour of two boys with their father to South America he devises experiments for the further education of the two boys in physics and discusses natural history between their travels in the region. Much time is spent on experiments with air and they try to replicate the Magdeburg hemispheres, how the barometers work, steam engines, air guns and weather phemomena are used as teaching aides. A scarce readable physics book with many experiments illustrated. 1 volume. Hardcover.

Full brown leather binding with gilt titles and decoration and five band raised spine. 232 pp. with 60 tissue-covered engraved plates and an engraved title page. Usual rubbing and some wear to edges, spine edges, corners, head and heel. Some torn off strips to surface of leather at rear, corners and top edge. A few scuffs, marks and scratches to board surfaces. Rubbing to raised bands though gilt title and tooling is still fairly bright. Full gilt edging. Neat top line of pale label residue to front paste-down. Foxed prelims. Page edges and protective tissues all a little foxed and yellowed but mostly at edges.
