Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Paperback, 276 pages, NOT ex-library. Primarily in English, with one contribution each in French, German, and Italian. Gentle internal creases. Book is clean and bright with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Uncreased spine. -- A multilingual academic journal produced by the European Institute for the History and Culture of Food (IEHCA). It serves as a scholarly forum for the interdisciplinary study of food history, combining social, cultural, and medical perspectives. The volume is divided into a "Miscellanea" section and a specialised thematic "Dossier". Miscellanea: This section includes diverse studies such as Florent Quellier's re-evaluation of modern peasant diets in France, a history of the VEB Weizenin food factory in Dresden (1900-1997), and Henry Notaker's analysis of the intersection between cookery and Nazi ideology in the Third Reich. Thematic Dossier: Titled "Nutrition and Health during the First Half of the 20th Century," this section focuses on the Spanish nutritional transition. Contributors explore the international influence on Spanish physiology in the 1930s, the medical regulation of "formula milk" as a substitute for breastfeeding (1926-1936), and clinical nutritional studies conducted during the Siege of Madrid (1937-1939). Research by Ximo Guillem-Llobat examines the evolving legal limits of food quality and market regulation in Spain between 1880 and 1936. The volume is significant for documenting how Spain moved from traditional diets to modern nutritional standards, influenced by both internal conflict and international health organisations. Ideology and Diet: Notaker's contribution remains a frequently cited reference for scholars researching how totalitarian regimes co-opted domestic spheres and cookbooks for ideological ends. Public Health History: The dossier serves as a vital case study for the History of Medicine, particularly regarding the medicalisation of infant feeding and the role of the League of Nations in shaping national food policies. -- Contents: -- Miscellanea: -- Le repas de funéilles de Bonhomme Jacques. Faut-il reconsidér le dossier de léalimentation paysanne des Temps modernes? / Florent Quellier; Im Räderwerk der deutschen Geschichte. Creazione, circolazione del modello e tracce della sua evoluzione (1931-1984) / Agnese Portincasa; -- Dossier: Nutrition and health during the first half of the 20th century: A Spanish perspective of community nutrition: -- Preface; Introduction: The historical context of the nutritional transition in Spain / Josep Bernabeu-Mestre; International organisations and the development of a physiology of nutrition during the 1930s / Josep L.
