Condition: Near Fine. dj. Third Printing. Very attractive early printing of this tragicomic novel that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1981. Sadly, Toole committed suicide 12 years prior due, at least in part, to repeated rejections of the book by mainstream publishers. His mother persisted with efforts to get it published following Toole's death, ultimately getting help from Walker Percy and the Louisiana State University Press. The novel is the hilariously absurd tale of Ignatius J. Reilly, a pompous yet hapless misfit, blundering through the chaotic streets of 1960s New Orleans. With biting satire and unforgettable characters, A Confederacy of Dunces brilliantly skewers societal dysfunction, human folly, and the clash between intellect and reality.
