Prev owner's name has been erased from the upper corner… of the tinted front flyleaf leaving a pale patch. Binding: sewn and cased, quarter linen (spine) and imitation leather (boards), blocked in gold on spine, in dust-jacket which is lightly foxed on the blind side. Publisher's prospectus loosely inserted. With original individual mailing carton. The book includes a biography of Lodge, historical introduction and text to accompany each plate by Sir Charles Fleming. The colour plates and accompanying texts give the history of the discovery, bio-geography and evolutionary development of the species illustrated and discusses the impact of man and the problems of conservation today.
