As longtime editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association (1924-1949), Fishbein became one of the most influential voices in 20th-century American medicine, known for championing medical ethics and combating quackery. His editorial work, including titles like Medical Follies (1925) and the Modern Family Health Guide, helped popularize scientific medicine for general audiences during the mid-century health education movement.
