Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Hardcover with DJ. Orange cloth over boards with gold stamping on front cover and spine. I'm not sure of the cause, but there is a thin black line across the top and bottom of the boards , including the spine, and a few marks from tape residue. These marks are within about a one inch margin from the top or bottom, and the boards are otherwise clean and unmarked. Dust jacket is clean and bright, with minimal wear. In a mylar sleeve. The tape marks and black smudges extend, to a lesser extent, to the endpapers. Pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. Overall, this is a clean copy.…

295 pp. Frontispiece by Virgil Finlay. 8vo, publisher's cloth in dust jacket. Almost a fine copy in a jacket with a 3/4" chip at the bottom of the backstrip, removing the publisher's name; shallow chipping at the top of the backstrip; and tiny chips at corners.

Condition: Very Good. New York: Weird Tales, 1953. Pulp magazine. Octavo; 96pp. Illustrated paper wraps. Shallow chips and tears along top and bottom edges, with some rubbing and creasing at corners and some smudging and toning to surface. Nearly 1" chip at tail with partial loss to price. Pages toned with a few short, closed tears in fore-edge margins, none touching text. Binding is sound. Contains August Derleth's novelette The House in the Valley," Richard Matheson's novelette Slaughter House," Lyn Venable's "The Missing Room," Nictzin Dyalhis's novelette The Sea-Witch, and others. Condition: Very Good. Kokomo, IN: Recreational Reading, 1949-1950. Five octavo volumes (9.25" x 7"); 130pp each. Pulp magazines. Illustrated paper wraps. Each volume with shallow chips and tears along edges, with a few larger chips to rear of Feb. issue (no loss of text), and some general light creasing and smudging to surfaces. October issue shows a long clean tear running down all but the last 3" of the front spine, and another running 3" up along spine at bottom back, a rubberstamped date and faded number in pen on front panel, and a bit more general surface wear. Spines variously creased and faded, with a few chipped away at edges. Three issues with tape reinforcement to cover interiors along edges. Pages toned (Feb. and Apr. more lightly so) but unmarked. Bindings are sound. Complete run of the short-lived pulp named to surf the popularity of the six-years-deceased Merritt. The magazine reprinted three works by Merritt -- Creep, Shadow! (novel), "Three Lines of Old French" (short story), and The Faced in the Abyss (novella) -- as well as a biographical portrait in the final October issue. The run also included Max Brand's (as George Challis) The Smoking Land, Jack Mann's The Ninth Life, George Allan England's The Elixir of Hate, Jack Williamson's "Racketeers in the Sky," art by Virgil Finlay, Paul Calle, H.R. Van Dongen, and a letter to the editor by an opinionated and question-brimming 15-year-old Robert Silverberg, among others. The magazine folded before a planned sixth issue was finished.…
