Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the remarkable life of Blessed Giacomo da Varagine, an influential 13th-century archbishop of Genoa. Born in the Ligurian countryside, he rose through the ranks of the Dominican Order with his theological acumen and devotion to pastoral care. In 1292, he became the Archbishop of Genoa and dedicated himself to fostering peace and unity amidst the conflicts that plagued the city. As author of the renowned Golden Legend, he also played a pivotal role in shaping medieval religious literature. Through a rich exploration of his writings, deeds, and the historical context of his time, this book offers insights into the life of a pivotal figure in the Catholic Church and the complex challenges of medieval society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, an English translation of a historical epic poem by Saint Prosper of Aquitaine, delves into the nature and necessity of grace in Christian life. Written in the fifth century, during a time of intense theological debate, the poem sets out to defend the Catholic doctrine of grace against the teachings of Pelagianism, a heresy that denied the need for divine assistance in human salvation. The author, a staunch supporter of Saint Augustine, provides a comprehensive examination of the role of grace in the Christian life, exploring its effects on human nature, free will, and the path to eternal salvation. Through the author's lyrical prose, readers will gain a deeper understanding of the historical and theological context of the Pelagian controversy and the enduring significance of grace in the Christian faith. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the evolution of religious and political power in Europe from the earliest civilizations to the French Revolution. The author argues that while religion was instrumental in creating social and political order in ancient times, it gradually became a source of conflict and division as societies became more complex. After the rise of Christianity, the Catholic Church emerged as the dominant religious and political force, but its authority began to be challenged in the late Middle Ages as a result of intellectual and economic changes. The Renaissance and the Reformation further eroded the power of the Church, while the Enlightenment led to a new emphasis on individual reason and liberty. The French Revolution ultimately resulted in the separation of Church and state, and this model was eventually adopted by many other countries. This book provides a comprehensive and insightful overview of the complex relationship between religion and politics throughout history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Add to basketCm. 20,5, pp. 168. Cfr. Melzi, II, 4. …
