This book is a facsimile copy of the 1882 copy by Houghton , Mifflin and Company titled . For some reason this publisher has chosen to title this book James T. Fields; A Biography. Print on Demand Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Near Fine; light tip bumping; small stain to fore edge at bottom. No DJ. Printed card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. 285 pp 8vo. Annie Fields compiled this book shortly after Fields' death in 1881. She was widow of this publisher (Ticknor and Fields), editor, poet and lecturer and herself an author of some renown. The book is full of diary notes tributes from his cohorts and admirers. The book closes with a poem written specifically for Fields by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, "Auf Wiedersehen," which appears here for the first time. A clean very presentable copy.

Mills and a tipped-in leaf of Dickens references in his hand. The life of America's foremost publisher written annonymously by his widow, with memorial poems by Whittier and Longfellow and the first printing of letters from dozens of authors from both sides of the Atlantic.
