Documents two decades of the artist's ephemeral sand and environmental installations in black-and-white photographs, with an essay by Fidel Danieli and an introduction by Josine Ianco-Starrels, plus a closing biography of exhibitions and works.Connie Zehr (born 1938) is an American installation artist known for large, temporary works in silica sand, clay, and glass. Working in Los Angeles from the mid-1960s among contemporaries experimenting with unconventional materials, she exhibited a mounded sand installation at the 1975 Whitney Biennial and was a founding member of the Womanspace gallery in the Los Angeles feminist art community. She taught at the Claremont Graduate University from 1982 to 2009, retiring as Professor Emerita; her papers are held in the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art.
