Z : 264 Seiten - Questo volume, edito in occasione della prima mostra monografica dedicata all'artista ospitata in una sede museale - il Leopold Museum di Vienna -, traccia per la prima volta in modo completo il profilo di Rudolf Kalvach (1883-1932), un pittore e incisore dimenticato d…alla critica ma che recenti studi hanno riconosciuto come uno dei protagonisti della scena artistica mitteleuropea dei primi del Novecento. Il volume ricostruisce la sua carriera, che si è dispiegata tra Vienna, dove ha iniziato a dipingere a fianco di Oskar Kokoschka ed Egon Schiele, e Trieste, frequentemente ritratta nelle sue opere. Dedito non solo alla pittura ma anche alla xilografia, tecnica che proprio a Vienna visse un apice artistico senza pari nei primi decenni del secolo, Kalvach, fu costretto ad abbandonare presto la sua produzione, a causa di una grave malattia psichica. Questo catalogo ha dunque il merito di restituire al pubblico un artista che, pur nell'ambito di una produzione limitata nel tempo, fu una delle personalità sperimentali più coinvolgenti della sua epoca.

Spine repaired otherwise a very good copy indeed. SEXTUS POMPEIUL FESTUS, Roman grammarian, probably flourished in the 2nd Century A.D. He made an epitome of the celebrated work, DE VERBORUM SIGNIFICATU, of another, earlier (circa 10 B.C.) Roman grammarian and teacher, MARCUS VERRIUS FLACCUS. Festus' work is a valuable treatise, alphabetically arranged, giving the etymology as well as the meaning of every word and his work throws considerable light on the language, myogies and antiquities of ancient Rome. He made a few alterations, and inserted some critical remarks. He also omitted long obsolete Latin words, which he discussed in a separate work, now lost, entitled Priscorum Verborum cum Exemplis. Of Flaccus' work only a few fragments remain, and of Festus' epitome only one original copy is in existence. HISTORY/THEOLOGY LATIN HISTORY/THEOLOGY.
