Desde las elecciones generales celebradas el 16 de febrero de 1936, que dieron el triunfo a la candidatura de izquierdas, hasta que los golpistas impusieron por la fuerza una gestora local ilegítima a finales de julio de 1936, se desarrolló en Ubrique el pe…riodo conocido como Frente Popular. Fueron los últimos meses del régimen de la Segunda República, que había sido proclamada el 14 de abril de 1931. En esta monografía se analiza la actividad emprendida por el gobierno municipal del Frente Popular, integrado por representantes de Izquierda Republicana, Unión Republicana y Agrupación Socialista, en un contexto de recuperación de las políticas reformistas iniciadas durante el primer bienio (1931-1933). Este volumen de la colección Historia de Ubrique está consagrado a un breve pero intenso periodo de la historia contemporánea de este municipio que se desarrolló de febrero a julio de 1936. Los meses del Frente Popular, que constituyen la última fase del régimen de la Segunda República, se abrieron con las elecciones generales del 16 de febrero de 1936, que supusieron el triunfo de las izquierdas, cuyo propósito fue profundizar en las reformas emprendidas durante el primer bienio republicano. Las políticas acometidas por el gobierno local de aquel tiempo son el principal objeto de atención de esta monografía, paralelamente al estudio de la cuestión social y el análisis de diversos aspectos que completan el panorama de esa coyuntura histórica.
