Magnus von Wright (1905-1968) was the primary artist of this spectacular work. He spent countless hours observing and illustrating the Scandinavian species surveyed withi…n. Von Wright was born and lived most of his life in Finland. Besides being a painter and ornithologist, he was a taxidermist and cartographer. Beautifully bound in mottled calf, with gilt impressed eagle as a centerpiece to front boards of all three volumes and a simple decorative filigree setting off the compartments betwen the spine's raised bands. All edges are marbled, as are the endpapers.
