The book has minor marks on covers (mainly on rear cover), usual faded spine and darkened spine gilt, 1cm clean split at top of spine cloth, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, foxing opposite the photo plates (heavy for 3 or 4) but all other pages have no foxing, solid binding, complete with all plates and chart, no restorations inside or outside the book. The book measures 227mm tall x 147mm, and has 381 pages, 48 b/w photos, 2 EP maps, 1 chart, 7 appendices. The USA first edition has more photos than the first UK edition. The USA edition has a b/w photo frontispiece and 47 b/w photos on 15 double-sided leaves. The UK edition has a b/w photo frontispiece and 33 b/w photos on 15 double-sided leaves.
