Original 1899 copy of Allsop's "Practical Electric Bell Fitting: A Treatise on the Fitting-up and Maintenance of Electric Bells and all the Necessary Apparatus." The book is overall in very good condition with just some minor signs of wear and age. The covers have some light soiling and wear. The… binding is good and sound. There is some minor dye staining to the bottom edge of the back free endpapers. The interior is toned from age but is mostly nice and clean with just some occasional light foxing and grubbiness. Along with that there may be the occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as a tiny tear or chip, minor interior crack, creased page corner, minor stain or marking, etc. Generally though, it's a nice copy. The book is illustrated with 8 folding plates including the frontispiece and some other in-text illustrations.

The first appearance of this successful manual for wir…ing private telephone lines, produced by the electrician Frederick Charles Allsop in response to the liberalisation of telephone exchange licenses in the 1880s. Much of the contents had been serialised as articles in English Mechanic but demand evidently remained high: a second edition was needed the following year and a fifth by the end of the century.
