Of the trap-door spider, Ganson writes: "He builds a tunnel richlined/With spider-silk; and you will find/Hist trap-door has a silken hinge/Skilled carpenters might feel a twinge/Of envy at the wondrous way/Its bevel fits the modelled clay/Of Trap-Door Spiders' trim doorway". Lighthearted, kindly and amusing visual and verbal fun enjoyable for all ages. Foreword by zoologist and 1896 director of the New York Zoological Part (forerunner of the Bronx Zoo); himself poet and songwriter as well, found much delight in the "fun-making pictures and versified skits". The presence of her bookplate in this volume suggests it was part of her personal reference library, likely kept for its whimsical character designs and satirical line work, which align with her professional interest in visual storytelling and characterization. Condition Detail The volume shows moderate external wear, including rubbing to the board edges and slight fraying at the head and foot of the spine. The interior is primarily affected by a moisture tide-mark at the lower gutter of the first several leaves. This staining is most prominent on the front and rear endpapers and title page but diminishes as the book progresses. The binding remains firm, and the illustrations remains harp and clear.
