Unwägbarkeiten jeder Art gab es mehr als genug: Stürme so schwer, dass er um sein Schiff bangte; Einsamkeit, in seltenen Telefonaten mit seiner Frau immer wieder schmerzhaft vor Augen geführt, und schließlich die scheinbar unendliche Dauer, die ihn dazu zwingt, rationierte Lebensmittel noch strenger einzuteilen, Wasser zu sparen, Genügsamkeit zu üben. Nur fünf Seglern gelang bisher dieser Törn. Der Deutsche ist nicht nur der Älteste, sondern segelt auch das mit Abstand kleinste Boot, das jemals auf dieser härtesten Route um die Welt unterwegs war. Die nur 10,60 m lange Alu-Yacht hatte sich schon einmal rund um die Welt bewährt. Damals, vor 16 Jahren, gelang Erdmann sein erster Nonstop-Törn, in 271 Tagen mit Wind und Sturm um den Erdball. Jetzt war alles gegen ihn. Mit entwaffnender Ehrlichkeit berichtet der Extremsegler über seinen Plan und dessen Durchführung, verbunden mit allen Problemen, Höhen und Tiefen des Einhandsegelns.
