First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. First edition of this anthology edited by John Michael Greer and Zendexor, the Kickstarter edition. Has a faint crease to the front cover from shipping, otherwise perfect and appears unread. "There was a time when the solar system was much more interesting than it is today -- when swordsmen dueled along the banks of the Grand Canal beneath the hurtling moons of Mars; when strange creatures writhed in the shadows of the mighty jungles of Venus; when Mercury's Twilight Belt marked a thin band of habitable territory between the lethal heat of the sunward side and the eternal cold of the side that faced the stars; when the many moons of the Jovian and Saturnian systems, the great gas-giant worlds themselves, the tiny frozen sphere of Pluto, and even the myriad worldlets of the asteroid belt, were all crammed with living things, some of them intelligent, some of them dangerous, all of them wonderful." Vintage Worlds collects seventeen stories totaling over 120,000 words of new, original short fiction stories inspired by the stories that appeared in pulp magazines like Weird Tales, Amazing Stories, Planet Stories and so many more. Australian shipping may be cheaper than the Abe quote, which is for a standard hardcover. Shipping can be combined. All overseas buyers need to contact me to check shipping rates prior to ordering.

Paperback. Condition: New. This volume collects together short writings by Christian writers from South East Asia, the majority of them probably unknown to Western readers. They come from the Philippines and Korea; China, Japan and India; Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Burma. The editor has written an introduction, and provided introductory notes for each setting to explain the passages chosen. To hear what is being said by many Asian Christians, he points out, is to discover a different motivation and a different role for theological reflection. However competent theologically the writers are, their over-ruling concern is first of all pastoral and missionary. They are not writing theological papers or constructing political theologies, but taking the next step in mission, and in the development of people. The examples given reflect the bewildering complexity of the region. Here is more than half the world's population, in thousands of ethnic and linguistic groupings. Every major religion is resurgent in a kaleidoscope of historic cultures. The destructive impact of colonialism and neo-colonialism, allied with the policies of feudal or capitalist elites within a nation, has produced a running fire of violence and domination which are reflected in almost every section. So the starting point is, given that running fire, how do Christians reflect and find in Bible, prayer and fellowship, strength for the struggle and perspective for larger human purposes?
Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: NEAR FINE. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Fourth printing. 427pp. Printed in red and black. Sewn binding in black cloth. Some light wear but clean text with sound binding; DJ tips worn. 'The Book of Common Prayer provides for the Church of Eng-land-and for the daughter churches which compose the worldwide Anglican Communion-daily, weekly, and seasonal rounds of formal, corporate worship. The Elizabethan Prayer Book was the third and most enduring of the earliest editions, and it afforded the context in which Elizabethans-from Queen Elizabeth, Shakespeare, and Raleigh to the village housewife and yeoman farmer-lived, worshiped, and died. John E. Booty's text derives from a rare copy of the Elizabethan Prayer Book printed by Richard Jugge and John Ca-wode in 1559, now part of the Josiah Benton Collection of the Boston Public Library. Booty has modernized spelling and punctuation, but he has taken care not to distort the style and cadence of the Elizabethan text. To place the Prayer Book in its original cultural setting, he appends a lengthy critical essay which traces the book's history and use during the sixteenth century. Helpful bibliographical notes enable readers to appreciate all the nuances of particular services and their contents. A select bibliography is also provided for the reader who desires further background information. Particularly useful are the general index and the index of biblical passages, features unavailable in other editions of the Prayer Book. Through this magnificent document one begins to understand not only the Anglican Church but also the Elizabe-thans. For this was one of the books that helped shape Renaissance England in all of its vitality and greatness. As Booty reminds the reader in his preface, each Sunday in the parish churches and in the cathedrals the nation was at prayer, the commonwealth was being realized, and God, in whose hands the destinies of all were lodged, was worshiped in spirit and in truth.'
