San Paolo, parlando della giustificazione delle anime, disse che Gesù Cristo «fu consegnato per i nostri delittti e fu risuscitato per la nostra giustificazione» (Rom. 4,25). Non volle con ciò affermare che ci fossero state due zone di influenza, con confini chiaramente seg…nati, sicché si dovesse attribuire alla morte e al Calvario la nostra redenzione dall'uomo vecchio, carico di peccati, e alla resurrezione e al Sepolcro la nostra giustificazione e arricchimento nell'uomo nuovo. Sapendo infatti che la Chiesa è celeste e terrestre nello stesso tempo, bisogna ammettere che essa sia stata frutto contemporaneamente tanto della morte quanto della resurrezione del suo Cristo. Cioè, dobbiamo considerare la frase paolina strutturata secondo il parallelismo sintetico, non antitetico. Così sempre la Chiesa, sia quella giudeo-cristiana ortodossa, sia quella gentilo-cristiana, ha interpretato questa dottrina della giustificazione, che non è essenzialmente «paolina» ma universale, comune a tutte le catechesi primitive.
