Prepared by OUP's Cartographic Department in association with Mac Purcell, Beirut, with advice from Dr M.A. el-Farra at the University of Kuwait's Geography Department. Sheet size 91x88cm colour printed to both sides, folding down into colour illustrat…ed title panels 13x23cm. Printed by Cook, Hammond & Kell Ltd, Mitcham, Surrey. Very good, neatly folded with short closed tears at folds and intersections. SIDE ONE features two maps. The first is of Kuwait City (1/10,000) showing built-up areas, areas under development, parks, cemeteries, places of interest, neighbourhood centres, ministries, embassies and commercial zones. The second map is of Kuwait City and its environs (1/40,000) as far west as Doha Village (dhow building) and the site of a proposed Amusement City, and as far south as Mina Abdulla Village. This takes in Ahmadi, Ahmadi Oilfield, the Industrial Area, Shuaiba Port, other settlements, and the proposed Asafar Motorway Extension. It includes an extensive Index and additional features including cinemas, petrol stations, major roads, major roads proposed, motorways proposed on existing roads, and motorways proposed. SIDE TWO has a map of Kuwait State (1/500,000) with Index, colour shading for heights, geographical features, transport links, wadis, international boundaries etc, with inset showing location map. Also on this side is a large photographic title panel featuring the Kuwait Towers, 8 smaller photos of other major landmarks, and extensive texts. The texts cover location, topography, climate, flora and fauna, population, history, social customs, Government, oil, economy, transport, social services, visitor information, and a quick commercial guide.

Add to basketLarge original colour-printed map of the Arabian Peninsula (87.5 x 90.5 cm) folding between publishers' original pictorial covers, verso printed with descriptive text concerning all countries mentioned in the title. A few small splits along folds, generally a very good example. The map pays particular attention to oil fields (na…ming them) and illustrating oil pipelines, including underwater pipelines. The map labels the Gulf the "Arabian Gulf" and favours Emirati maritime claims. In the Strait of Hormuz, the U.A.E. is shown owning the islands "Bani Tanb" and "Tanb-e bozorg". The map records some of the contentious borders within the region, including the Iraq-Saudi Neutral Zone, the Kuwaiti-Saudi Neutral Zone, the Kuwaiti-Iranian maritime border (with the Esfandiar oilfield in the centre), and Saudi Arabia's undetermined southern border. The United Arab Emirates borders Qatar, this technically changed in 1974, but was not made public until 1995. The Saudi ArabiaUnited Arab Emirates border dispute was apparently resolved with the Treaty of Jeddah, which was signed at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 21 August 1974. The provisions of the treaty were not publicly disclosed until 1995, when it was lodged with the United Nations. However, the United Arab Emirates never ratified the agreement. The map also shows the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, a Soviet satellite state the existed from 1970-1990.
