Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. New Edition. 1950. New edition (the first edition was in 1937). 256pp. and a colour frontispiece. Elsie Jeanette Dunkerley (1880-1960), was an English girls' story writer, who took her pseudonym from that of her father, the novelist John Oxenham, and is best known… for her Abbey Series of stories for girls. In this story, Rhoda - a schoolgirl of 17 - and her mother find themselves dispossessed by a distant cousin, and her fierce resentment centres around Rosamund, the girl whom this cousin is to marry, and upon whom Rhoda looks as an interpreter and usurper. Intrigues and the family feud run throughout the story, but after exciting events and hard-won victories the end comes to a note of reconciliation and happiness. The book is bound in the original blue boards with black titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the bottom of the spine and noticeable fading to the top 1" of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is faded. About 1" is missing from the top of the spine and a piece measuring about 1" x 1/2" is missing from near the corner of the top rear edge. There are tears of about 3/4" on the top front and top rear edges and a few smaller tears on the bottom edges. The front flap has been clipped with a printed price of 6s. showing above the clip. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.
