Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, written in the late 18th century, delves into the complex and often misunderstood world of insanity. Examining the subject through the lens of the burgeoning field of medicine at the time, the author seeks to understand the causes, manifestations, and potential treatments fo…r this affliction. The book draws upon a wealth of historical and contemporary accounts, including observations made by the author himself at the Pennsylvania Hospital, to shed light on the different types of insanity, their potential origins, and the range of approaches to treatment. The author, deeply concerned with the suffering of those afflicted by this condition, highlights the importance of compassionate care, acknowledging the often-overlooked humanity of the insane. The book, a fascinating exploration of an enduring human concern, offers valuable insights into both the medical understanding of the time, and the deeply felt compassion of its era. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive look at the health and well-being of soldiers and sailors in the early 19th century, examining topics that were crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of military forces during that period. The author, drawing upon his own experiences in the American mil…itary, provides a detailed exploration of the practices and regulations that were thought to be essential for maintaining the health of troops. The book delves into the historical context of military medicine, highlighting the importance of proper hygiene, nutrition, and clothing in preventing disease and maximizing soldier effectiveness. The author provides practical advice on the selection of recruits, the construction of barracks, the regulation of diet, and the implementation of exercise programs. He also presents his own insights on improving clothing and footwear for soldiers, emphasizing the importance of comfort and protection against the elements. The book further explores the critical role of medical officers and surgeons in ensuring the health of military personnel. It examines the duties of different medical professionals, from the director general to the regimental surgeon and hospital assistants, and provides detailed forms and guidelines for record-keeping and administration. The author's insights into the importance of preventative measures and the need for a well-organized medical department continue to be relevant for understanding the historical development of military medicine and the challenges faced by soldiers and sailors throughout history. Dr. Roddis the 15th President of the American Nuclear Society, he worked in the Manhattan Project (later the Oak Ridge National Laboratory), and was responsible for the first major nuclear power plant in the U.S. at Shippingport, Pennsylvania.
