First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. FRA FILIPPO LIPPI BY EDWARD C. STRUTT 1901 SMALL HARDCOVER VG. Staying with the art and depictions of Italy I am pleased to offer: "Fra Filippo Lippi" by Edward C. Strutt. Wikipedia provided me with a bit more information about the artist, to wit: Filippo Lippi, also known as Lippo Lippi, was an Italian Renaissance painter of the Quattrocento (fifteenth century) and a Carmelite priest. He was an early Renaissance master of a painting workshop, who taught many painters. Sandro Botticelli and Franceco di Pesello (called Pesellino) were among his most distinguished pupils. This small hard cover book (6 ¾ x 9 ¼ inches, 203 pages) was published by George Bell and Sons of London dated 1901 and the First Edition. The book is bound in sky blue boards with very elaborate and bright gilt decorations and titles on cover and spine. It is well illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontispiece and 55 full-page plates. Our author, according to the Preface, sets a presentation about Fra Filippo as a man and as an artist. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are clean, bright and attractive. They are very slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips. Inside there are some paste-down labels, from a book dealer in Rome and from the estate of the noble family at whose estate auction I acquired the book. Otherwise, the interior pages and plates are clean and bright and without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
